The Island of Flatey is an unforgettable place and the only island on Breidafjordur bay that is still inhabited whole year around (o5 inhabitants). Most of the houses are from the 19th century and walking around this old village feels like travelling back in time.
Itinerary for Breidafjordur Nature Cruise in Iceland
Day 1. Birds, sightseeing, fresh scallop tasting and sea angling
Tour starts at the harbour in Stykkisholmur (pick-up from Reykjavik possible). Sightseeing tour of the archipelago, explore strangely shaped cliffs, navigate powerful tidal currents, see countless birds, taste fresh scallops, try sea angling and settle in the stunning island of Flatey.
Day 2. Latrabjarg Cliffs, birds, whales, seals and coastline
The second day we explore Iceland’s highest bird nesting cliffs; Latrabjarg. It is fascinating to see the cliffs from sea, look up at the countless birds. A chance to see seals and whales on the way.
Day 3. Deserted fjord, old ruins, unspoiled nature, natural pool
The third day involves a visit to a deserted fjord, time to explore the area, which is known for old ruins and unspoiled nature. Gourmet beach barbeque in the rugged landscape. Enjoy a soak in a natural geothermal spring, located by the seashore or explore the area on foot. The cruise ends in Stykkisholmur – but optional transfer to Reykjavik.
