Peace award for ethics in business to be given to Stef Wertheimer

Israeli businessman, Stef Wertheimer, is to receive the Oslo Business for Peace Award at the 2010 Oslo Summit peace conference in Norway for his outstanding ethics in business reports IceNews.

According to IceNews, Stef Wertheimer, alongside six other businesspersons, will receive the Oslo Business for Peace Award at this year’s Oslo Summit. The award, sponsored by the International Chamber of Commerce and the Business for Peace Foundation, is to honour the seven business figures for their contributions towards the advancement of ethical business practice and social responsibilities. This year will be the first time that an Israeli businessperson will be receiving the Oslo Business for Peace Award.

European data center market report reveals expected growth in UK services and providers

A new data center report covering 17 European markets (excluding internal usage and outsourcing services), has revealed that significant growth will occur in the UK data center market over the next five years with an overall increase of 74 percent in space; the largest in Europe. Increasing data center demand and investment across western European markets, and the factors that restrict this growth form the background to a new report from BroadGroup – the third bi-annual European Data Centre Market.

The report describes how the UK data center market will lead in capacity over the next five years, with space more than double France or Germany by 2014. The report also provides a broader picture of whether future demand will be in-house or outsourced, and in particular whether third party data centers have the skills and economies of scale to manage environmental factors much more successfully. Emerging markets and business telecommunications are to be discussed during the ICT Finance Emerging Markets Global Summit, taking place on December 6-7, 2010 at the BIS Conference Centre in London, England.

Right to Play charity receives donations from Oslo Marathon participants

The Fokus Bank Oslo Marathon, taking place this weekend 25-26 September in Oslo, involves a number of charities including Right to Play. Founded in 2000 by Norwegian athlete Johann Olav Koss, Right to Play aims to develop children and young people through play and activity in the world’s most troubled areas. The organisation works today in more than 20 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and South America.

Laila Andresen, national head of Right to Play Norway said, “This event shows all those taking part how much children enjoy participating in sporting events. Oslo 2010 marathon event in Norway marks 2500 years of the marathon

Norway’s answer to the New York marathon, the Fokus Bank Oslo Marathon 2010 is set to mark the 2500-year anniversary of the long-distance running event tomorrow. Fokus Bank Oslo Marathon organizers, The Vidar Sports Club, expects close to 16,000 people to participate during this weekend’s proceedings.

This event, marking the fabled run of Greek soldier Pheidippides, a messenger who allegedly ran from the Battle of Marathon to Athens in 490 BC, will set its stamp on the Norwegian capital over these two days. The event’s starting and finishing lines are located at Akershus Castle in the city center, and if the forecasts for participation stand correct, this event will set a new record for a street race in Oslo; the previous record, set in 1994 at 14,192 runners.

Fokus Bank Oslo Marathon receives record registrations from 71 nations

Vidar Sports Club, the organiser of Fokus Bank Oslo Marathon, has received a record number of registration for this weekend’s event. Vidar expects close to 16,000 people from 71 different nations to run one of the distances covered; marathon (42,195 metres), half marathon (21,097 metres), 10 kilometres and three kilometres. If the forecasts for participation hold good, this event will set a new record for a street race in Oslo. The previous record is 14,192 runners set in 1994.

Fokus Bank Oslo Marathon, held on the last weekend in September annually, is Norway’s largest street marathon. First staged in 1981, the race attracted a record 14 000 runners in 1994, but interest in jogging declined around 2000 and it was not staged in 2002-03. Due to this, in 2004 the organisation of the event was taken over by the Vidar Sports Club and now in its 28th edition is going to be bigger than ever. Read more
