Iceland renewable energy data center recieves modular facility

Later this month, Verne Global, the renewable energy powered sustainable data center at Asbru Enterprise Park in Iceland, will be given a modular data center facility from Colt Data Center Services; making it the first wholesale data center space in Iceland, and also the world’s first zero-emission data center powered by dual-sourced renewable energy.

The location of the data center has been carefully placed so that it will be the first in the world to use 100% dual sourced renewable energy sources – a mixture of geothermal and hydro-electric power. In addition to this, the cooling system has been optimised to suit Iceland’s climate, allowing for free cooling 365 days a year. Read more

New report explores Landsvirkjun’s renewable energy potential

A new report has been published by GAM Management hf. [GAMMA] exploring the renewable energy potential and future outlook of Landsvirkjun, the leading producer of renewable energy in Iceland. This report is based on four different investment and project scenarios, as well as its potential impact on the Icelandic economy.

Within the report, one example of the topics discussed includes the possibility of a submarine cable, connecting Iceland to the European energy market. The consequences of such an undertaking on the Icelandic economy are debated, by asking, for example, whether it would be more economical to only sell energy to the Icelandic market or to enlarge the market by connecting it to the European energy market. Island er i den grad en varm destination

Nu, når Grimsvötn vulkanen i Island nærmest er en skygge af sig selv, er Island om muligt en endnu mere attraktiv feriedestination ovenikøbet med et nyt geologisk vidunder.

Den kraftige vulkanske aktivitet under Vatnajökull gletcheren varede i tre dage og der blev produceret mere aske på en enkelt  dag end under hele Eyjafjallajökull udbruddet sidste år. Islandsk vulkan skruer ned for blusset – Icelandairs flyvninger fortsætter

Björn Oddsson, geomorfolog fra Islands universitet, har udtalt, at Grimsvötn-vulkanen i Island har skruet ned for blusset, og at udbruddets intensitet er kraftigt aftagende. Dermed forventer Icelandair ikke yderligere problemer på grund af vulkanudbruddet ud over mindre forsinkelser på afgange fra Amsterdam, Oslo og København.

Island er en vulkanø, og landets moderne infrastruktur og nødberedskab er udviklet til at kunne håndtere vulkanudbrud. På trods af jævnlige jordskælv og vulkanudbrud i Island er der næsten aldrig nogen, der kommer til skade, og der opstår som regel kun minimale forsinkelser. Read more
