HRF: Defensores de derechos humanos se reunirán en Noruega para el Oslo Freedom Forum 2010OSLO, Noruega (18 de marzo de 2010) – El Oslo Freedom Forum, que tendrá lugar del 26 al 29 de abril en Noruega, reunirá a los más efectivos e importantes defensores de los derechos humanos del mundo, con la finalidad de que puedan compartir sus experiencias, vivencias y consejos.

Entre los participantes figuran la líder del grupo étnico uigur, Rebiya Kadeer; el disidente de Corea del Norte, Kang Chol-hwan; la ex rehén de las FARC, Ingrid Betancourt; y la reformista sudanesa Lubna Hussain, quien fue procesada bajo la ley islámica por vestir pantalones. At the same time of year, and covering the same route, over 100 RAF personnel, civilians and ATC cadets walked the 60 miles in temperatures of -21C in commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the forced marched by PoWs in 1945.

Michael Day, whose father Frank was one of the PoWs at Stalag Luft III and was on the original march, and who also took part in the Great Escape from the PoW camp, said of this, the fifth recreation of the march, ”It was bitterly cold but nobody complained as our discomfort was insignificant compared to the prisoners. I was very pleased to be wearing Patra silk long johns and a silk vest, two pairs of silk socks recommended by the SAS, a pair of woollen socks, sweaters, and a great coat lent to me.” Read more

Copenhagen and Parma, 12 March 2010. European governments adopt comprehensive plan to reduce environmental risks to health by 2020.

Governments from northern, western, central, southern and eastern Europe signed a declaration today pledging to reduce the adverse health impact of environmental threats in the next decade. The text was endorsed by 53 Member States attending the Fifth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health in Parma, Italy on 10-12 March 2010. Read more

A horrific rugby accident five years ago left Leicestershire resident Matt Hampson paralysed from the neck down, confining him to a wheelchair. movemanSKG installed a Prestige platform lift in Matt’s newly renovated house, which allows him to reach its upper floor.

Matt took up rugby at the tender age of five. Over the years he played for local teams such as the Leicester Tigers, and progressed swiftly through the junior national levels. Survey finds charity pay rise decisions affected by economic uncertainty

Typical pay rises of 1% are being planned by charities and many expect to cut staff numbers in 2010, according to research by EBRS, a pay and reward consultancy.
